Quick drying adhesive - any suggestions?

My son is doing an art project exam which is 5 hrs long. He needs to stick various household objects like bits of circuit board, wires, plastic bottles tops onto a flat surface like hardboard. We're looking for a strong adhesive he could spread over the area then stick the stuff down. He then needs to be able to spray paint the whole thing within the exam time frame of 5 hrs.

I thought a tile adhesive would work but don't know whether it'd be dry enough in a couple of hours.

Are they allowed to use a hot-glue gun?

Evo-Stik is a contact adhesive and should be prefect for this sort of application.

Thanks for replying. Hot glue gun - yes they can use this but I don't think it's strong enough. Same goes for Evo-stick.

A lot of the bits have knobbly surfaces so I was thinking they'd need to be sort of stuck into a thick adhesive. It also a big area he has to cover so he'll need a lot of it!

You can by superglue with a spreader now, I bought it as I always get it all over my fingers otherwards. If he doesn't want to use that or is not allowed to worth going to a hobby shop or art shop as they often sell more specialist types. If you have a Hobbycraft shop near you worth a visit

thanks mosesg. I think a trip to Hobbycraft is a good suggestion although do find it a bit expensive. Hopefully not for glue though.

I can think of reasons not to use the above adhesives - hot, solvents and safety. The best , cheaper and easier alternative is water- based PVA glue.

Whoever suggested water-based glue needs some glue training!
Maybe will be set by the next morning.

Hot Glue gun, or dot and dab with fast foam adhesive as Builder says : )

It just does not exist .. if it's water based.
Even vinyl tile adhesive is quicker.

Yes .. Water based PVA which is fast set when there is a thin wood to wood bond.
It will not work!
