Nissan Almera headlight problem - '53 plate

When changing a bulb recently (o/s) I released the spring clip and the whole bulb mount fell away, it had melted. This meant I had to replace the entire headlight assembly as it was irripairable.

Same thing has now happened to the n/s light - an expensive if exercise when all it needed was a bulb!

Anyone else had the same prob?

mdoo98 - Still arguing with garage about this point. They are trying to wriggle out by saying I invalidated my warranty by changing the bulb myself but they wanted 25 quid to do this! (on reflection it would have been a lot cheaper)

These were the original bulbs as supplied with the car so one assumes they were ok - the replacements have been checked against the handbook and are ok.

Have just had the same problem with a 53 plate Almera but on both sides. All bulbs and holders were original fittings.

The offside bulb holder fell apart while driving and the nearside holder disintrigrated while releasing the spring clip.

The dealer however changed both headlights and all the bulbs under warranty. They did have to check with Nissan but the whole job took less than a day. Great service I think.

It may still be worth persuing your warranty claim as it appears that your problem is not a one off.

the same thing has just happend to me i phoned nissan and they want �180 + vat to replace it

Try an eBay search I got both headlights this way. It cost me �96 for both + �25 to fit them from a local independent garage.
My dealer stopped answering my calls after I had a bit of a face-to-face with the service manager who just point-blank refused to do anything about it saying I had "interfered" with the headlight fittings - total cr*p.

went to my local nissan dealer and asked them if they would do the repair under warranty and although it was 2 months
out of warranty they did the repair free of charge as the fault seems to be a common one and goodwill as i have the car seviced with them.

Same happened to my O/S light. Been told to go to my dealer for a free replacement as some of the original lights have a molding process defect. Nissan GB has raised an official recall, so hopefully will get done even though the car is out of warranty. Will post answer of outcome.

Listen up everyone. Went to Nissan dealer to get them to check my melted Almera headlight ,and after checking, told me that they will replace both headlights,free of charge. Also there were also 3 other items on the recall database to be replaced on my car. Also free of charge. My car is 6 months out of warranty but that didn't matter. If you own an N16 shape, 2003 onwards Almera, take your car or VIN to your local dealer and get it checked out. I nearly bought 2 new headlamps off E-bay, which would have cost dearly. Even if your lights appear ok then still get it checked as you never know when they will fail.
