when is the best time to move - roses---clematice (they are both in flower now)

am not a gardener but I do know that one never moves anything in flower - the best time is when the plant is dormant - have the prepared site ready before you move and dig out the plant and try not to disturb the roots more than necessary. the less faffing the better!

I wouldn't move them now - but if you have to prepare the hole well with organic matter and water. When you've replanted water in well for the first couple of weeks.

Deffinitley only when dormant... especially roses, which should be fully dormant... early spring after thaw but before growing starts...

clematis will be fine after flowering has finished, roses may flower into early Autumn, so risky to move before the end of flowering really.......having said that, I moved all of mine in Sept, and only lost one Rose!..........

If you can move them with a big enough rootball october should be ok as the soil will be warm enough to help them establish. If you are in the south of England you will probably be finding roses especaily are not going into full dormancy I have friends in Essex who picked a bunch for the christmas dinner table last year despite the really bad weather
