I remember a lot of unrest about it, and the songs we all sung about it.

Altogether now, "If you're go-o-ing to San Francisco" de diddly um te tum
There were a lot of protests about Viet Nam, but the entire ethos of the 'flower children' was that people should be nice to each other, and come to think of it, that's a pretty good ethos to have.

There were student riots in Paris in 1968. They began with students rebelling against what they saw as the authoritarian system of the education hierachy, and a large amount of the French work force went on strike in support. The uprising was brief, but history reveals it as the cause of a radical shift in French society's attitudes away from strict conservatism towards a more liberal approach which has lasted though until today.
London 1968, watch the 2nd part of this clip.

you could have a good smoke for ten bob stayed the same price for years
I'm afraid my peace loving hippy stage only lasted until one Saturday night in the old Eight Bells in Mansfield when some *** upset me and I decided a good right hand was better then turning the other cheek. There was a lot of good music about though.
In the past people could be sentenced to 'Hard labour' and sentences for crimes were a deterrent, today they are not, I'm sorry to say it but everyone except the Government seems to now that 'prison works' because it keeps the offenders from carrying out further crime and disorder. When young we did NOT loot, assault, throw petrol bombs etc etc. This was wanton criminality. Lets make the justice system a deterrent, not a laughing stock. Reduce police numbers and look what happens Mr C (Cameron and Clegg).
I was a flower child and never rioted, (my mum would have killed me)
Don't forget that in the 50's we wrecked cinemas when watching Bill Haley's "Rock around the clock" ripped up the seats and anything! so much the same.
Does anyone else remember the fights between Mods and Rockers in the '60s? Usually took place on Bank Holiday somewhere like Margate or anothe seaside town. I was a Rocker girl and we used to say how we hated the Mods and the way they dressed etc, how tame it all seems now up to what goes on today.
In the sixties they would have all been out of it on pot. I remember going on a school trip to Bournemouth and buying hippy bells to hand round your neck.
'hang' of course!
