In the absence of replies at the time decided to use fresh garlic. It was lovely too lovely really (especially with butter). Thanks for your suggestion.
I have rather a lot of garlic at the moment so will try making some garlic bread now I have read this thread. If you care to put the recipe on the thread it would be appreciated giveup.
Garlic powder is an abomination - has a nasty aftertaste and makes your breath stink for ages, unlike properly cooked fresh garlic.

May I also pronounce anathema on bread making machines while I'm at it. Proper bread takes about 20 minutes of actual work!
grasscarp, this is how I make cheese and garlic bread, I slice a french stick, spread it generously with butter, sprinkle freshly crushed garlic onto it, as much or as little as you like, I don't like mine too strong, so just add a little to each slice, then add grated cheese, bake in a hot oven for about 8 to 10 minutes..........it's delicious!.....
Will give it a go Welshlibranr. Have never done this before so new territory! If you are born under the sign of Libra - me too!
yes, grasscarp, I am a Libran, sure your cheese and garlic bread will be fine!.........enjoy!..
