For a few years I used to microwave vegetables, by putting them into a container with a minimum of water, cooking time varied depending on the vegetable. I've since read and heard that microwaving destroys a certain amount of goodness (ie. vitamin/mineral content) and that it is better to steam them (as I used to before microwaves became popular). What do others think?

I don't know about the loss of nutrients, although it sounds like it makes sense, but I always steam veg because, to me, they taste fresher and better!

We steam all our veggies, including spuds barender.

As natalie says, they taste much better than boiling or microwaving.

Steaming. Best way.
Vitamins are not destroyed by cooking. However, water soluble vitamins are lost to the cooking water (or steam). Best to microwave them or else use the cooking water for making gravy.
I don't know what destroys nutrients or what doesn't, but veg always tastes nicer steamed rather than boiled or microwaved. However, the water you get from boiling veg makes the gravy taste really nice! Can't win, can you?
