when should i cut this back, its still got flowers on and i can still see butterflies and bees on it sometimes, think its also called an everlasting wallflower

Pushybabe - I keep mine all the year round, mine are yellow, I just cut the dead flower stalks off and they have little seed pods on which I plant and they germinate very quickly (in the Summer) they never die even in last years bad Winter. If you have the purple erysimum called "Bowles Mauve" you can propagate them by cuttings in Spring/Summer. So don't cut too much off your plant now, let the flowers die naturally and depending on the variety either save the seeds or just cut the stalks off.

Every bit you prune is a potential new plant I used to take about a third of it back evey couple of months during the summer so it got bigger and bushier then just lightly clip it over in spring ...
