After a couple of months I've got five healthy two foot tall green leaves but no sign of any flowers at all. I've watered it but not fed it (as per instructions received with it) as I,m waiting for the flower to start growing. Am I wasting my time - should I bin it?

No but you may not get a flower this year keep it growing and feed it with any plant food, in early october stop watering let the leaves die back cut them off give it a couple of weeks and re start it you should get a flower stem before the leaves regrow
