In the last few years some varieties of impatiens have been developed that do quite well in full sun.. Sunny Lady hybrid mix is one we've used for borders and does wll.  Needs a little extra fertilizer mid-season but is a proliferate bearer of blossoms all season.  As tubeway, states though, most impatiens prefer at least partial shade...
