can i lay weed control under lawn

we have a real problem with dandelions in our garden, i was wondering if the new turf we have planned would still take if we laid weed control then covered with topsoil then the turf

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.i am sure their is a dandelion epedemic this year..the best thing you could do if you are in a hurry to get the new turf down is..dig all the dandelions out before putting the top soil down..if you are not in any hurry then go ahead and put the weed control down..i am overrun with dandelions also ..i keep removing the heads so they dont seed and make more..
Your best bet is to spray the area before you lay the turf with Roundup (the commercial one if you can get it - see a nearby farmer) and leave for a couple of weeks. Then lay your turf. Next year control the weeds with a good quality 'weed and feed'. Any form of weed control like a geotextile fabric mat will only cause problems for the future. It is okay under chips, under grass prevents proper rooting etc. As always the best solution is hard graft. However, it is rewarding.
