Carbon monoxide alarm
14 Answers
Hi, Does anyone know if smoking would affect a carbon monoxide alarm. A friend of mine has had one for about two or three years and it started bleeping continuously so has had to disconnect it. She smokes and I wonder if this may affect the alarm She has the boiler checked regularly by British Gas.

Could it just be the battery that needs changing? My smoke alarm beeps every 15 minutes or so when the battery power gets loo low

When you say continuously ... what do you really mean ?
My detector bleeps..
1 bleep per minute .. if it's a battery fault
2 bleeps per min...... if it's a detector fault
3 bleeps per min...... if it's the end of the detectors life
5 bleeps per min.......if carbon monoxide is present
You really need to read the instructions relating to your friends detector to see what the problem is. But dont ignore it, and certainly dont turn it off.
Or you may be soon choosing a flower arrangement for her.

No idea about smoking, I imagine it will depend on the sensitivity of the unit and how close the smoker sits.
I recently bought a Kidde brand CO monitor. It states that after 7 years it stops working. This is indicated by bleeping twice quickly every 30 seconds. Low battery is one bleep every 30 seconds.
