my other half found a small ladybird with lots of spots on in back garden brought it in and put it with a pot plant is this uusual for this time of year
Well it is getting quite cold isnt it and ladybirds go and hide somewhere it is however quite cruel keeping an insect because they die with small air plus ladybirds spit out blood so it isn't healthy for humans either
''The yellow stuff you might see from time to time is their blood (hemolymph). It, too, contains pheromones and it stains. You can see the yellow blood when you hold a ladybug and it gets scared. This is a normal reaction to stressful situations called reflex bleeding. Releasing some of its blood is one way the ladybug can protect itself. The blood smells bad and signals to a predator that this ladybug is not a good lunch choice.''
For the last couple of years we have had 8 to 10 ladybirds hibernating in the top corner of our bedroom. They don't do any harm and are not dirty and each spring when they seem to start moving around I put them outside.
