Planting Potatoes

Why does it say in my new gardening book that potatoes should be planted in rows going north to south? Is this what I have been doing wrong for years :-)

Well mine 2 years ago were perfectly OK and I planted them east to west.

have you had good crops from your previous plantings? In which case ignore the new advice - if not , try something different

It's to ensure all the plants get an equal share of the sun and don't cast shade on each other so much.

has to depend on where you live and in my book, would rather listen to a countryman than a scientist.

I always plant north south as the sun gets to both sides in equal measure.

Given enough sun, I'm sure it doesn't make much difference, but when its in short supply as it is at the moment I like to make the most of it!
