Anyone have any solutions for a bindweed problem? Have been deep diiging some of it, but that comes back. Tried weedkiller (which says it works on bindweed) on other areas, that comes back too. Any suggestions? Thanx.
Join the club ! I fight a constant battle with bindweed in an herbaceous border , I've tried training it up canes and then painting with systemic weedkiller, digging it out but the root goes down to at least six feet , neither work now I just remove as much top growth as I can and by denying the plant access to light it has got less over the years . I don't think there is a real solution.
If it's available in England, use Roundup... it will deffinitely kill the plant. It's environmentally fairly safe (it is a weedkiller though). Remember, in using any weed killer, the chemical should be applied after a rain or watering, and the warmer the air temperature the better. Don't apply it if a rain is expected within 48 hours, though...
You have my sympathy!
Had the same problem in my garden when I first moved in. As the garden was derilict major digging was involved and every tiny bit of root removed.. If you leave even a tiny piece it will grow back eventually.
As Clanad has said, try using 'Round up'- it is very good, but beware of getting it on any plant you want to keep or that will possibly die off too.
