Empty Spaces

I've just been around the garden pulling out heaps of dead poppies. Don't know how they got there but they have been lovely. However now that they are done I have lots of spaces to fill - but with what? Too late for the annuals now I think and I would like something to keep going until November. Any suggestions received with much thanks

Michaelmas daisies of various sorts perhaps, nasturtiums, ice plants (sedums). I'll do a bit more thinking.

Poppies will seed anywhere that you have a bit of bare soil - I love them. Throw a pack of nasturtium seeds in the spaces - they need no encouragement at all, mine are bright and the bees love them!

So do the cabbage white butterflies and you get loads of lovely caterpillars who demolish the leaves, but who cares. I love them (and poppies). I have nasturtiums everywhere at the moment, from just one small packet of seeds a good few years ago. Good idea Boxtops.

still time to get a flowering from candytuft, night scented and Virginian stock and maybe even escholzia ... or how about a sowing of radish and spring onions and mixed leaves for salads
