Solar Lights For Garden / Home ...do They Work

just bought 2 security lights for outside, they dont work. yet another stupid choice from ebay i have made.

can anyone advise which are best wire free security lights to get. not too expensive.

We have Solar lights in our garden, Im not sure if they are suitable as security lights though, our don't give off a beam of light as such, more of a bright glow.

Lidl sometimes have them, with a motion detector separate solar collector. Mine has worked fine for about a year, cost about £30, though it did struggle in the depths of the winter,

I bought some solar security lights and thought they did not work until I noticed a small plastic tag that had to be removed from the battery compartment before use, maybe worth a look. Hope you get sorted.

I think it unlikely, especially in the longer winter nights, that a solar powered light would gather enough power in the day to run for the whole of the night. Even if they are the turn off & on type, they will be running the sensor. I don't think I'd rely on them for security. Just for decoration and maybe a little cheer when one gets back from work in the evening.

Agreed OG. Advances in battery storage within a small volume and use of efficient LED light sources cannot yet compensate for a use which demands probably a 40W LED (bright enough for security purposes) being used in winter nights with limited daylight. It will happen, but not yet.

IMO...they are as much use as a wire free extension lead.

I thought my solar lights weren't working, on closer inspection there's a very small on/off switch inside the casing, I switched them to on and hey presto, they work just fine!.......maybe worth a closer look!...........
