For the past two months or so I have been suffering from a fungus infection on my scalp. Thankfully it has almost cleared now thanks to treatment from my doctor. What I would like to know is how I could have got this fungus and what shampoo should I use in the future. I used to use Head and Shoulders but have changed to Simple since having this fungus

most fungus infections, like most bacterial ones are with us all the time. We pick them up from the environment or other people and often small amounts live on our skin causing no harm whatever. The mischief happens when the environment they are living in (like your scalp) becomes more hospitable to them and often at the same time less hospitable to other bacteria or fungi, The infection takes advantage of the change in environment to begin growing and multiplying and then you get symptoms. Changes which will help infections to grow tend to be changed PH, increased humidity, increased food source and a lessening in mechanical removal. Its also possible (although I am sure that your doctor has checked) that the onset of diabetes can make fungal infections more likely.
Not my area but:

\\\\\What I would like to know is how I could have got this fungus \\\

I have no idea and from what i gather nobody else has any concrete evidence either.

Some people say that the dermatitis is there first and then the fungus follows.

Some people say that the fungus is there from the start.

Some people say that too much sugar, too much coffee, too much..yady yady yady....and so on.

Some people say it is due to Vitamin B deficiency..........

Take your pick hardy.

Not a helpful reply, I know.

There you are......woofgang knows.^^^^
I recommend and personally use a Tea Tree oil based shampoo by teanji. I get it from a local chemist or can be bought on line.
Head and Shoulders can really sting, not a good make at all. Holland and Barratt sell some very good aloe vera shampoos that moisturise head and hair, would be worth you checking them out.
grin Sqad, my info is based on infection control lectures, both the kind for hospital acquired infections (best way to avoid those? stay out of hospital and if do you have to go in leave as soon as you can! While you are there keep your own hands and environment clean and watch staff like a hawk to be sure that they do the same!!) and general advice for people in their own homes.
