My mum has been given a mini hydrangea for Mother's Day (aldi)
Would I be right in thinking it really belongs in the garden rather than a pot in the house?

yes, but its going to struggle to go straight from indoor temps to outdoor. have you got a cool bright spot in the house, like the windowsill of an unheated room for it, maybe next to the window in a shed or (of course) a cool greenhouse or conservatory? Another option would be to put it out in a sunny spot in the garden by day and bring it in again at night, you could also cover it in bubble wrap or frost fleece at night.

Oh I think I will leave it in the pot until summer and pop it in then
April or May should be fine.

Update on this - the plant is dead - it did not even make a full week!
Yet the lilies I was bough by the eldest son and heir are still in full bloom - and they are from Aldi too!!!!
