Flowering Basil

I have a pot of supermarket bought Basil which I have used and cut down and has re-grown. The re-growth has now developed small, white flowers. I have never seen a Basil plant flower before. Is this a first.......like the cuckoo?

"Keep plants bushy and productive by pinching the tips of branches regularly and remove any flowers that start to develop".
