Those are byzantinus, the wild gladioli. If they are happy in you garden, full sun well drained soil, they will come back year after year although a very wet winter might see them off. When we lived in Somerset, they were very common in the cottage gardens.

I think they are gladioli given the blade like leaves
Could be, Toorak.....Gladioli Italicus is a possibility.....x
Well they're not your bog standard gladioli, much too early if the picture is current and smaller flowers? My first thought was also penstemon but the leaves are wrong. It could well be a more unusual variety of gladioli. Wonder what chipchopper thinks.

I think the Italicus is early flowering with smaller flowers than the usual gladioli, Prudie........x

That's great, Byzantinus it is! They're all around the borders and are looking glorious at the moment. Thanks all for your assistance
