Orchid Roots

Not many buds on my orchid yet, but lots of ‘outside’ roots looking a bit messy. Can I cut these roots back? What are they for?

Can you pot it on into a larger CLEAR plastic pot?

This reminds me, mine are nearly dead. I must water them.

What is the difference between a clear pot and an opaque one? I always put this pot inside a China outer pot anyway!

Orchids have 2 types of roots.

The ones that go into the compost, and the others are called air roots.

The roots in the compost like to see the light, so as has been suggested take them out of the ceramic pots.
