I have Power of Attorney for a friend and a monthly payment arrives in his Lloyds account, marked D-C.  As my friend is unable to explain where this is coming from I asked in the local branch but they just told me they couldn't find out.  How useless is that?  Any ideas, please?

Direct Credit?

It's up to the payer to define the payment reference, and they should advise the payee when it is first set up.

Is the payment amount a debit or a credit?

If you look at the statement online have you tried clicking on the payment?  It can often bring up more details

Sorry, yes, it's a credit and I've had no luck on clicking on the reference.

It'll be the payers reference,  as Canary has said.

You may have to do some detective work to find out who it is.

Your friend will have been notified, is there any way you can check emails from around the time the payments started? For example and hope it was email and not a letter.
