Fences rotting at soil level

Years of digging out my compost heaps into borders means that the bottoms of my fence are now below soil level and starting to rot. They can't easily be raised as some of them have climbing plants growing up trellices which are attached to the fence. Can anybody suggest some suitable long lasting protection - (not bricks which are too thick) which I can insert at the bottom of the fence to prevent further damage. Thanks.

Try scraping the soil away then burn out the rot with a blow torch (have water buckets close by!), then soak the wood with a five star preservative Won't last for ever. but a bit longer.
I'm thinking charcoal ... if you b b q make a point of sifting out debris and chucking along fence... not tried but works in my wooden troughs
