very tall bamboos

Phyllostachys Aurea does any one know about this bamboo? Mine are very vigorous grown as a superb screen on a slope which is basically chalk with loads of top soil. they have been dropping yellow leaves all this year. Can they be over watered? do they need to be thinned out? Is there an expert out there?
