Avocado

How can I grow an avocado plant from the stone? I've tried putting the stone in a milk bottle, but have had no success.

I planted an avocado stone about six weeks ago and it has just come through. All that I did was plant the stone in a pot of multi-purpose compost. I place the stone about 1' deep in the compost. I then watered it and put it into the airing cupboard, watering every two days. I just noticed that it had come through this morning. The plant is a pinkish colour and is quite thick. I have now put it onto the windowsill, fingers crossed it will continue to grow!!
