Holly berries

Hi,
I live in Jersey and today, which is gloriously sunny and warm, noticed that the holly trees are full of berries already.
Does this mean we are in for a cold winter.
I do hope not.
Many thanks

The amount of predictions people make because of lots of different factors is a waste of time.
Que sera sera i'm afraid.
FWIW i really hope we get a severe amount of snow this year....at least a meter deep down on the south coast !!!

The Weather Outlook gives a reasonable long range forcast for what the winter and summer is going to be. They are saying that we could be in for an wintry blast at the end of the week, due to cold weather pushing in from East to West, instead of the usual West to East. However it will not have as much effect down South as up North!
The Weather Outlook was predicting earlier in the year, that this winter would be milder and wetter than last winter.
By the way I live in Bournemouth and the weather has been glorious here as well, Summer is back at least for one more day!!

Hi info, Thats an interesting theory and I would'nt pour scorn on it, but I think the most likely answer is that it was favourable conditions back in may for the insect pollinators, in Jersey.
I'm hoping for a mild winter too, I can grow a much wider range of plants if it does'nt get too cold!

This year has been remarkable for the number of berries on trees, - hawthorn, rowan, etc. My market gardener friend says It's been caused by the weather conditions we had in the spring and summer. A cool spring prolonged the 'getting ready' period for plants, then a hot summer brought everything out in abundance.
Nothing to do with what's to come, I'm afraid.
