A biology department from Perdue University produces a pamphlet stating: ENGLISH IVY Hedera helix
(ginseng family)
TOXICITY RATING: Low. Although reported to be very toxic in a few scattered reports, this is not a frequently encountered toxicosis.
However, it goes on to say:
DANGEROUS PARTS OF PLANT: Leaves, berries.
CLASS OF SIGNS: Oral irritation, stomach irritation, diarrhea, breathing problems, coma, death.

While it has this to say about Devil's Ivy
Common Name: Devil's Ivy
Scientific Name: Epipremnum aureum
Family: Araceae
Toxic Principle: calcium oxalate crystals
Clinical signs: oral irritation, intense burning and irritation of the mouth, lips, tongue, excessive drooling, vomiting, difficulty in swallowing.

Thats the least of your worries.......look here..........

Yes, but even very small children can be taught not to eat plants! If it's in a hanging basket it's unlikely to ever fruit. (The fruit is the most likely to attract a child.)
