Runner beans

We plant runner beans every year, but we have been told by a friend that after harvesting them if we cut them back they will come again the following year without re planting, is this right?

No, they are not hardy in the UK.
A trick I heard on Gardener's Question Time which I have tried successfullly - after you have picked the beans, remove about a third of the leaves and you will get a second crop.
Good luck.
lift the roots dry and store like dalias
put in pots in the sping some will fail but the ones that grow
flower earler and crop earler
