Apart from 'Good fences make good neighbours' there are also...a. 'A fence between makes love more keen' which means that if barriers are put in the way of a loving relationship, the lovers will be even more determined to be together. b. 'A fence lasts three years, a dog lasts three fences, a horse three dogs and a man three horses.' This refers to the relative life-spans of these various things/creatures...3, 9, 27 and about 80 years, which is actually a little more than the three-score years and ten the Bible suggests!
