Will Fatsia Japonica grow in a pot?

I bought a lovely big japonica to put on my decking in a large pot and foolishly waited until after I'd paid to ask if it would be ok in a pot.
The lady at the nurseries said it would prefer to be in the ground.
Has anybody grown one in a pot?

Your Fatsia should do fine in a large pot as long as you dont let it dry out. A granular fertiliser, as directed will keep it looking good.
If you are in a cold region you will have the added advantage of moving it inside during the winter to protect it from frost. Good Luck Tbird+

I'm wanting to grow some larger plants in pots to 'hide' my garage when we're sat on the decked area.
Do you know if a hebe or catoneaster would be ok in conainers too? or could you recommend anything to me. Thanks again for taking the time to help.

Yes they should be fine in a large containers too but will grow more slowly.
Bamboo can be easily contained in pots and make a good tall screen. Good Luck Tbird+

Your Fatsia should be OK provided the pot is large and deep enough but make sure the pot does not curve in to a smaller diameter at the top, otherwise if the plant ever needs to be repotted you will not be able to get the soil ball out in one piece and your plant could be irreparably damaged..

Hi Wendy, thanks for your advice, I've actually found a nice spot in the garden for it now as I had a large cordyline that was ready to pot on into a bigger container.
Funny you should mention the shape of the pot as it was something I'd never thought off until only recently when I came to repot a plant and couldn't get it out! ...ended up smashing the pot.
