I have just finished decking my garden and I would recommend that you raise the base on stilts as it is advised that air can circulate underneath it, especially if your deck is made of wood. This type of deck will outlast many others. If you have the budget, it is also advisable to get composite decking (sometimes called UPVC) which is non slip and is guaranteed for at least 25 years.
