Russian Vine problems

Any advice please for a Russian vine which has gone crazy this year, we inherited this when we moved a year ago and did not cause too many problems last year. However this year perhaps because of the amount of rain we have had this vine has now taken over most of the garden. It is clogging trees and I just do not know what to do to get rid of it. I have located the root but it will be impossible to dig out as it is so close to our fence line and is huge. Help me please before it takes over completely.

cut out as much as you can and take it down to as near to the base as you can. Then you can apply a weed killer called Root Out which will finish the job for you.

Got to be done - get rid! One of our gardens backs onto a railway embankment and a Russian Vine has moved from a nearby garden onto the embankment and is now invading the back gardens of 15 or so houses! Dont delay -go with Hawkwalk!

Its nickname is the 'mile a minute' plant. Not without good reason.

Many thanks for the advice, looks like I now have a job for the weekend to keep me busy. I think someone was right when they said a Russian vine looks nice but definately from someone elses garden far away from yours!!

You obviously have not trained it properly. Also just give it a regular trim with garden shears to keep it in check. We were so pleased with ours we took cuttings to plant elsewhere.

I've seen this creeper get out of control so many times, even reaching the tops of fifty foot trees !
Your best chance of getting rid of it is to follow Hawkwalks advice.

They are a nightmare, one of the fastest growing vines ever, and I think they are ugly too. I'd get rid of it and put something nice there instead maybe a wisteria or a clematis.
