Hi condor66,
Puning of pieris is not neccessary unless of course it's got to big for the situation if this is the case it is best done in april or may, this will give any new growth a chance to harden up before the arrival of frosts.
Appart from that any dead, deseased or damaged material can be removed including wayward or anything spoiling the general symmetry that your aiming for, dead flowers can also be removed at this time, which will encourage it to produce more flowers. Good Luck. Tbird+

thanks for your answer. That has been very helpful, i have 2 of these but they are getting a wee bit too big for the border that they are in , i just need to tidy them up a bit. Thanks again:-)
