japanese red maple seeds

I have purchased 5 red maple seeds of a website they appear to be of the dried variety i have since heard that it is best to use fresh seeds would i be wasting my time using these dried seeds?

I think it worth giving them a try. Even with fresh seeds germination may take a few months. I would mix a pot of ericaceous compost and sharp sand, plant the seeds and overwinter outside in a sheltered spot. they may need frost to activate germination. Hope this works!

Yep, sow them now into a pot and leave them out in the cold and wet all winter to stratify (let the cold break down the seed coating)

Then, around late feb/early march....bring into a warm greenhouse/conservatory/windowsil.

Grown thousands of japanese maples like this.
