Withering Bonsai
I was bought a Bonsai tree ( Sagarethia Theezans) as a gift for Christmas. When it was given to me it was already in a rather withered state. I've watered it well every few days but the withered leaves have dropped off and there are no signs of new life. Hopefully I'm just being a little impatient, but does anyone have any suggestions please?
Thanks

Lack of water is a common reason for bonsai's dying off, and because they're just small versions of the larger trees, they really need to be in conditions that they'd usually find themselves in. Small-leaved ones are the best for rearing, & it's best to get one from a specialist bonsai nursery. Privet & hawthorn do well, but you could try again, and even grow your own from an acorn. I also understand it's best to buy one that has at least two branches shooting off it, but unless other ABers can help, I fear you might've lost this one.
I`ve had 5 from Homebase (reduced to about 5 in sales) over the years. The only problems occurred when I over fed them diluted fertiliser as it caused dehydration. I saved all but one by putting them in a bucket of water just covering the pot, & changing the water daily for about three days. If yours is kaput already, then as CJ says, nowt to lose.
