soil h

I have tested the soil in my garden and it is on the alkaline side, according to the test kit around 8.5. I want to plant an apple tree, which needs a neutral ph, in a large container. I could use some soil from my garden in which case I will need to lower the ph or as I am planting it in a large container I could use some ready made soil/compost, in which case what type do I need?
Thanks

If planting in a large container I would use fresh soil purchased from a garden centre. I would go for John Innes number 3 or use a tree and shrub compost which you will find in any good garden centre.
If you want to lower the ph of your soil in the garden then you can do so by adding a more acidic additive to the soil such as pine bark, acid fertiliser or peat to name but a few.
