Japanese Beatle

Hi

Back in the early spring I noticed some grubs in the garden. These have now hatched into what would appear after "Googling' Japanese Beatle.

Can anyone tell me how to get rid.

which country are you from as this is not a pest I have come across in the UK and this a UK based site?

If you are in the US then I am not sure what control is available but there are a few American gardeners on here who might be able to help.

I know I'm in Wiltshire thats why I'm asking the question as know one seems to know.

are you positive it is japanese beatle and not just a closely related beatle. The true test for a Japanese beatle is it will raise its back legs in the air if you approach it. If it does not do this then you have another type.

Definately Japanese Beetle. I've caught one and compared it to the pisc on-line

If that is the case then it is a quarantine pest in the UK and you should report it to your local plant health office who can positively identify it for you.

It is possible that it is a **** chafer beetle, or may beetle. There have been a lot of these around lately, they buzz around very loudly in the evening, and their grubs appear in the soil in the garden. Google image '**** chafer' and you will get a fairly comprehensive selection of pictures - they are quite harmless.
