Acers prefer an ericaceous liquid feed. At this time of year I give mine a top dressing of ericaceous compost about 2" around the roots.

Thanks 'shylock73'........I am collecting a variety of tips...but it is difficult to know what to do for the best. ......one tip \i got was to ' leave it alone at this time of the year as it is starting it's dormant period...and it needs it's rest But the ericaceous feed seems to be polpular...in the early Spring.
Yes zinnie, I meant liquid feed in the spring for a fast responce and a mulch to help it through the coming winter months and protect the roots from early frosts.
