You could plant bulbs, daffodil, crocus, tulips, iris, snowdrops. etc. Also buy cyclamen small plants now out in flower which will last nearly all winter.

hi jenny i have an allotment and have just planted some winter lettuce (artic king), some spinach (bella) and some broad beans for next year. You can also plant out some garlic now and into november. I also have some over wintering onions, a japanease type and british one aswell. If you have a sunny window you can still sow herbs and have them ready for the next year. If you want a good web site try Gardenaction.co.uk they give you a yearly and monthly planner it has helped me out sooo much. Enjoy your winter.
sorry i forgot spring cabbage is good too i get most of my seeds from thompson and morgan..enjoy
