worming a dog
11 Answers
I have a wee dog and have certainly wormed him about 3-5 times - but could anybody tell me why I have to worm him.
He eats his dinner about 1or 2 in the day but my sister (when she is here on a Sunday) cannot believe that he wants to keep eating. Yesterday he flew in from the yard after eating quite a good dinner - jumped onto her knee and stole her bacon. I dont want to give him 2 meals cos he will get fat

Also if they eat anything they find out in the country such as rabbits etc, but other than that they are not done any more often. I use Drontal bought from Pet Dispensary online, where they are on offer buy three get one free.
Even if your dog never goes outside you still need to worm it. Worm eggs can be anywhere and you are almost certainly to walk some inside on your shoes at some time. When hatched they seek the warmth of an animal and some can enter through the skin - dog's paw. Dogs also lick their paws and will thus ingest the eggs/worms on the bottom of their paws.
The fact that many dogs will eat the excrement of other animals makes them very susceptible to worm infestations.

You need to worm your dog because some worms (Roundworms and Tapeworms) can easily be caught by humans. Children especially can be affected by them.
The eggs can lie dormant in soil for a long time.
In extreme cases some can cause eye sight problems or blindness in humans.
Some Tapeworms can cause liver damage in people.
