I have looked everywhere for a large bottle (carboy?), to put some of my semi-tropical plants in, but have not been able to find one anywhere. Can anyone help me by letting me know where I can find one? Preferably in Hampshire, but am keen to hear of anywhere! Thanks

Have tried to find one also, and failed , so was desperate and used wine demi -john. It doesn't look as swish as I would like , but plants are doing really well, and I kid myself that I am re-cycling.

This may be of no use to you ,,just an idea which works, good luck with the search.
Not sure, but have seen them more than once at auctions, especially if they are house clearances.

Where roughly do you live in Hampshire, Banjomorris? I was a nurse in Basingstoke in the mid 1990s. Are you near there, by any chance?

Thanks for your answers - have used others types of glass containers and in fairness, the plants are not fussy and love them! I would just like to try something a bit larger now and a carboy has always appealed to me. To answer you, jonnyboy12, I live just outside Romsey, which is somewhere around 20 miles south of Basingstoke. I keep my eye out for auctions and the like for any signs of carboys but they must be popular with owners because they hardly ever seem to get relinquished by them!
Hi,I was once told the following company supplied carboys but never followed it through. might be worth checking out.
Dixon glass co,
127-129 Avenue road,
Beckenham.
BR3 4RX.
good luck

Thanks vulcan42 - good of you to reply - will check them out, having failed everywhere else!
Try loking up chemical works or dye factories near you
As notalot says try chemical works, but glass acid carboys were phased out for plastic years ago.
I used to work in such a place many years ago.I could have laid my hands on loads.
I made enquiries some time ago about glass carboys and the companies still using glass said that they were usually returned to source to be used again. The occasional one was "liberated" but als not in my direction!! So I started using different sized and shaped fish-tanks........
Do you have a local freecycle website-i'd put a wanted notice on there, its the type of thing people have tucked away in the back of the garage unused

thanks again for your answers - yes, I have posted a wanted on the freecycle website but to no avail. Good suggestion though. Ta.
