pruning of grasses

when do i prune my grasses, and how much do i cut them down, does this apply to all types.

I'm assuming your describing decorative or ornamental grasses... These can be cut back severely any time after they go brown. In our area of the western U.S., we cut them back in October since the winter winds tend to scatter the dried fronds all over the yard. In a less severe climate, early spring would be a good time. We cut three varieties we have back to just a few inches above the ground...
