My garden hedge has a ditch the other side and I've had rats dealt with by the pest control man, but they've now come back again and burrowed into my compost bin. Can anyone please suggest a suitable rat-proof base that I can put on the ground under the bin. Plastic or wire netting may not strong enough to last. I'm told that putting the bin on paving slabs is not a good idea as it needs worms etc to help break down the compost. Thanks for any suggestions.
I wonder if you are putting left-overs from the table in the compost. Something you should never do. Only add uncooked veggies, contents from your vacuum cleaner, and anything that was originally grown from the soil.
Thank you carlton. I must have been putting a few unsuitable ingredients into the compost, so much watch points. I'm hoping to find a suitable mesh or grid to place on the ground to stop the rats but haven't come across anything yet.
Thanks Dollarman. I'll have a look out for the wire mesh you've mentioned. I've asked various people near where I live but not, as yet, been to a garden centre - must be my next outing
