i have a bees nest in my flower bed, not sure what type they are. I dont want to cause them any harm but am concerned with them maybe stinging children or guests during summer. Will they stay permanently or discard the nest at the end of the season. They are in and out all day and if i tend the bed they seem to fly near to me. Any advice please. Val
When I had a similar problem I contacted the council, who gave me the number of a local bee keeper, who came and took them away, but these were honey bees
They are Leaf-cutter bees which are quite friendly and solitary, all they do is cut bits of leafs and take back to their nests where they make a neat out of the bits. Just leave them alone and they won`t bother you.
If they are Leaf Cutters, then as carlton23 says, they are no problem at all, I have a couple of wooden nests for them, facinating to watch.
But you don't mention their size, Leaf-cutter bees are quite small, if they are larger, then they could be Bumbles or Honeys, in which case paddywaks solution is the best,
