I love these plums and am thinking to plant one tree in my back garden. Any idea what time of the year is suitable for that and if they need too much care etc?

Thanks in advance.

only one....plant now
I'd wait until the autumn before planting so there's no risk of losing it over the dry, hot summer months and you won't have to water it with a gallon of water every day.
If the long, hot summer we have been promised happens, keeping even a container grown one alive and flourishing would be a problem. I would wait until early autumn and then plant. Check that the root stock of your plant is a dwarf one. Your local nursery will advise on that. As Victoria is a self fertile variety you will not need to worry about pollinators. I grow this and the plums taste even better from the tree than the shop! You will soon be enjoying your crop.

Thanks to all of you for your good advice. I will wait till probably September and then go and get one from my local nursery.
further to coccinelle's posting I've several dwarf fruit trees growing in half barrels 2 cherries (Stella) and an apricot (Mrs Moorcroft?)and they do need LOADS of watering if you want to get decent friut. What I do is set the hose to a trickle pop it on to the tub and forget about it for an hour
Any nurseryman will tell you that it is best to plant bare rooted fruit trees between November and March. You will find that you need to wait until November for the nurseries to have them ready for you. You could prepare the ground several weeks before hand.
They need a few feet of soil around them and garden compost plus bone meal at their base. If in a windy spot, a stake is advisable while it establishes its roots. During their first year watering is advisable during dry periods.
Victorias are self fertilising so you don't need to have other plums around. Also - Make sure you have the correct root stock for your size garden.

After so much help I feel like that I have become a gardner now. So far my wife use to call me grass destroyer as in her mind I can't even mow over lawn properly.

So bundle of thanks to all of you.
