Any recommendations to get vine weevil beetles would be appreciated. Ive tried stuff from the garden centre but it hasnt worked. I have a lovely evergreen Jasmine that was very expensive and seems to be thriving, so i'd hate to lose it to these pests! I have a pup so i must take chemicals into concideration obviously. Thanks in advance
Hi Hawkwalk. Yes, took one to the garden centre and they confirmed it. Used Provado on their advice but still finding them everywhere! Was advised that they are practically impossible to get rid of and if unlucky enough to have them, pretty much just have to accept it and suffer the consequences really!
i had this problem last year - I could have cried... the thing is you have to get some Nematodes they are bacteria (which come in a powder form) that you mix with water you then soak your plants with it and it gets into the soil and infects the vine weevil grubs (which will be next years beetles) but its the grubs that do all the damage to the roots.. the neamtodes then kill them off... Also I used to go out at night with a torch when the weevils come out and kill them (that was a lovely job) The thing with the nematodes is you have to apply them at the right time of year when the grubs are hatching out in the soil... I was advised Sept and the following spring to be extra certain.. Which I did nothing dead so far plant wise..Last year they munched their way through Hydrangeas, Fuschias.and a lovely little orange tree...Good Luck.
pps.. The other thing I had to do was take my plants out of the pots clear off every bit of soil which contained the vine weevil grubs and then once I knew there were none left on the roots re-pot them with new soil...that was fun!
