My friend planted a wisteria plant about 7 years ago - it has grown well but still hasn't flowered. I told her that someone once told me that it can take about 5 years to flower but is 7 - 8 years OK too. Is there anything she can do to assist flowering. SHe has it planted along a lovely verandah and it's going to look stunning if and when it blooms. Thanks in advance.
Is she pruning it properly? She must be savage with the pruning or it won't flower.
Did she start it from seed? That can take up to 15 years to flower.
you can sometimes be taken in when buying Wisteria, always buy from a reputable company and check that the plant is a grafted one, not a cutting or a seedling.A grafted plant should be blooming by now.....ernie
Thank you both for your answers. SHe definitely wouldn't have grown it from seed. I'll tell her about the pruning though. How far must she prune it back then?
