Fuchia Cuttings

When can i take Fuschia cuttings. I try every year but they never grow..maybe it's better to buy new plants every year. Is it time now to take cuttings? x

I have taken my cuttings already. However I now root them in a more unconventional way. I make holes in a flat piece of polystyrene and then put the prepared cuttings through the holes and then place the whole over an old marg tub filled with water. After a week or so, check regularly and once roots are seen on the cuttings, pot up in the normal way. I am sure that you can still take cuttings this way at this time of year.

I take them in the spring if they have survived the winter and have produced shoots about 3-4 inches long which I cut with a sharp blade to 2 leaves down. I then cut them about 1/4 " below the leaf joint, dip them in hormone rooting powder about just enough to cover the cut, shake off excess powder and insert around the edge of a 3" pot of Seed and Sowing compost, and cover with a polythene sandwich bag kept in place with a elastic band, then placed on a window sill for a month, later to be transplanted singly into a smaller individual pot until ready to plant out after the end of may into the garden. The middle of August is a good time also to take cuttings.
