How to preserve Garlic - pickle or in brine

I had recently found a great many wild garlic bulbs in my garden, they are very small, strong and I would like to keep them for use over the winter (or to give as presents to my foodie friends for christmas), does anyone know a good recipe for either pickling them or doing them in brine.

Any help appreciated.
