Hi Dee Sa,

Im afraid I cant offer any advise but really hope someone can as Mr Wiggal has decided to try for the first time this year and will be reading with interest! :-)

Good luck and hope someone can help you!
Just below the panel where you`ve put your post is an advert for Potatoes Bags, where you can get some ideas. Click on it.
Also there`s plenty of advise if you google Thompson & Morgan `Growing Potatoes`
Dee we don't know what you did or didn't do but there's a short video here to help you.

Good luck this year, I'm hoping to grow some myself :o)
I have tried this before. It didn't work ! I also tried the motor car tyre method where you plant the potatoes in one tyre and keep adding tyres and soil as they grow. I ended up with a tube of 8 tyres and all I got was very long stems and 6 potatoes.

Last year I planted "Pentland Javelin" potatoes in potato bags and the old dustbins - (redundant because we had been issued with Wheelies. ) I had quite a lot of success and I did what the chap at the Garden Centre told me. I used a granular fertiliser, and topped up the bags and bins regularly with rich compost (from memory "Murphy`s) and watered frequently. Quite a bit of work but he yield was good and they tasted fab! I`ve emptied the bags and bins using the soil in other parts of the garden and plan to do the same routine on the spuds this year. Hope some of this helps and although nothing beats a proper veggy plot bed, have a go at the sacks.
we've grown pots in old bins , one year we had a good crop
last year was naff , water is the secret , also make sure the
pots are covered in soil , they are no good if they go green ,
are you growing earlies , 2nd earlies or main crop ..main crop store
the others don't .Just try a small bag of each ..Focus has 3 bags for
£5 and there are 10 tubers in each . Good Luck .
I grew 3 varieties in potato containers last year - seed potatoes Charlotte & Pink Fir and an unknown red skinned variety which were sprouting in my vegetable tray. They were grown in a mixture of compost & well rotted manure, with chicken manure pellets mixed in. They were watered regularly and grown in a sunny place and had all the attention I could lavish on them. The maximum yield was 3 lbs from the sack of cast-off kitchen red skinned variety so I won't be bothering again.
